Teddy's House is a program birthed upon the loss of my 19 year old son, Theodore V. Beckles III. He was murdered on September 2012, changing my life forever. My vision is to channel the pain created from this senseless crime, into hope and possibilities for the youth of New York City. Our youth need to know that tomorrow is not only an option but that it can be worth looking forward to, depending on the decisions we make today.
Teddy's House will offer a communal environment, of support and respect, fostering the belief that every youth has the ability to achieve success when given positive motivation & structured purpose. Our target population is youth between the ages of 12 through 21, from diverse culture and race.
I am calling on all who are able to help make Teddy's House a home. Help us find a building, in Harlem, identify financial investors, celebrity endorsements and volunteers. Your support will help create a safe place for youth to receive services that will essentially drive them to become productive citizens, helping them to develop lives that will inspire them to reach back and help someone else. In this unfortunate tragedy in my family's lives of losing Teddy, it is evident that our youth are suffering and need a special type of support and crisis intervention. Let' be pro-active in our youths lives.
